A Pacific Northwest favorite native food is grown for its beautiful pink - red flowers and golden yellow berries that looks like a large raspberry. Flowers up to 1.5 inches wide appear in April to May and attract hummingbirds. Berries not picked by humans or wildlife attract birds. Berries are milder in flavor than raspberries, but can be used any way raspberries are used. Ripens earlier than most raspberries.

Salmonberry grows into an attractive upright shrub up to about 6-7 ft. in height in USDA Zones 5-8. In the Spring young shoots can be peeled and eaten fresh or cooked like asparagus. Berries have also been used to flavor wine and beer.

Salmonberry likes moist environments, plant along stream banks, seasonally flooded areas and under trees in moist areas. Grows in Full Sun to Partial Shade. Good for erosion control.

Provide summer water to get berries throughout the summer and early fall. This easy care plant is deer resistant, self fertile and grows in any moist soil type.
