You’ve probably heard the statistics by now- the majority of people are wearing the wrong bra size. In fact, 80%. We have an epidemic on our hands! First, how should the band of a bra fit? It’s important to note that how the band fits depends greatly on the fabrics. Typically, bras made with mostly non stretch fabric and lace should/will feel tighter than bras made with stretch fabric and lace. With that said, the band should be snug - like a tight hug. If you can put more than two fingers underneath the band, it's too big. If you have take the bra on/off over your head like a pull-on style, the band is way too big! Tip: use a bra extender to increase the band. Step 1: While wearing the bra, pin out how much the bra needs to be reduced at the back. Write down how much on either side. Step 2: Using a seam ripper, take off the hook + eye. Step 3: Using a rotary cutter or scissors, cut off the amount that the band needs to be reduced on either side. Step 4: Reattach hooks and eye. Open tape on the eyes and wrap around the raw edge at the center back. Sew using a straight stitch 1/8” from the tape’s edge. For the hook side, wrap the tape around the raw edge, and sew 1/8” from the edge with the hook facing up. You must sew with hooks facing up to avoid your machine from getting damaged. Tip: Eyes go on the left side of the bra as if you were fastening it on someone else, and hooks go on the right. Use a universal needle.
