Sailors use rope to secure a soft patch to a pipe during pipe-patching training in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Soft patches are a temporary fix and consist of soft wood wedges, oakum, rubber gasket material and tarred marline.
