New York City has always been on the move. The city’s status quo is change and it has been hurtling toward the future for nearly 400 years. Neighborhoods rise and fall, people come and go, and the city’s zeitgeist has always been future oriented. In the 19th century, New York’s expansive and more welcoming identity allowed it to leap-frog its competitors Boston and Philadelphia and become the global city it is today.
