Atlanta is the capital city of the U.S. state of Georgia. It lies in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northwestern part of the state, just southeast of the Chattahoochee River. Its origins date to 1837. Atlanta is Georgia’s largest city and the principal trade and transportation center of the southeastern United States.
