Beautiful R&G Tapering Waist corset circa 1904-1907. This is what we now refer to as an s-bend corset due to the distinctive curvy silhouette it helps to create that became popular during the Edwardian era.

The first mention I can find of the R&G Tapering Waist corset is in 1904, and I believe this style is one of the earlier ones. Later in the 1900s, this style began to get longer with a more streamlined look from what I can see in advertisements.

See the last photos for images of advertisements for this corset from 1904 to 1906, taken from newspapers, Ladies Home Journal magazines and The Delineator.

RedThreaded (redthreaded.com) just posted a really informative blog post about this style (the s-bend) of corset on her website, and I recommend taking a look if you're interested in learning more about this shift in style/aesthetics.

I have used padding to fill out the corset on the dress form, and you can also do this when wearing this style of corset if you want to achieve the dramatic silhouette without corseting down your waist too tightly.

+++ Measurements +++

It is a size 23 (the waist is 23 when fully laced). Depending on your body type and preferences, your own measurements should be about 2-4 more than your corset measurements.

Waist: 23

Bust/underbust: 31

Hip: 36

Length varies from 11.5 to 14.5

+++ Condition +++

This corset originally had attached garter straps that were removed at some point in the past. It also has been patched/repaired in one small section. Overall it is in great condition for its age with some wear and staining.

This piece is wearable with care but would also be a great study piece, beautiful for display, or for inspiration and pattern making.

+++ Please read +++

This item is not new, and as such, it has wear commensurate with age. As with all older vintage and antique items, please handle with care.

All items are sold as-is, and I do my best to point out all condition issues and provide a detailed description and photographs.

Unless specified, items have not been cleaned.

I do not accept returns or offer refunds. Please see all photos, read the entire description, and ask any questions before purchasing.
